Every gram of 18k gold contains exactly 750 milligrams of pure gold. The remaining 250 milligrams are a deliberate, metallurgical choice. That quarter-gram decides whether a ring glows yellow, blushes pink, or gleams white. It also controls hardness, workability, and how the metal ages. Gold in its pure form is a soft, warm yellow metal. To make it wearable, goldsmiths combine it with base metals in precise proportions. The classic yellow alloy uses a balance of silver and copper, which preserves the natural warmth of gold while adding strength.
